When you hear remote live directed voice over session, you might wonder: what exactly does that mean or how is it done? Think of it like a collaborative recording experience where clients and voice actors work together online, in real-time to shape the voice acting performance. Instead of waiting for a finished file and possible revisions, you take part in the creative process in real time remotely.
The voice over for this Decathlon video was recorded via a remote directed session via Session link pro for Mix et Mouse studio.
Who Is Involved in a remote live directed voice over session?
The Client: The person or team who needs the voiceover. They provide the script, brand guidelines, and the creative vision.
The Voice Actor: The performer who brings the script to life with tone, style, and clarity.
The Director or Producer (for bigger productions): Keeps the session on track and ensures the client’s creative vision is met.
Sound Engineer (project-dependent): Handles technical aspects like recording, levels, synchronizing to a video, and file delivery.
Note: Every project is unique, so not all sessions will include every role listed above. Some may be as simple as you and the voice actor or actress, while others feel like a big party with everyone invited, depending on the scope and needs of your project.

What Happens in a Remote Live Directed Voice Over Session?
A remote directed session is a live recording session where the client (and or director) listens in and gives feedback in real-time. The session typically includes the following steps:
Connection Setup – Everyone joins through a remote recording platform (like Source-Connect, SessionLinkPRO, Cleanfeed, or even Zoom or Google meet).
Artistic Direction & Questions – The voice actor gets clear direction and asks any questions they may have, which may include pronunciations, pacing, tone of voice, etc.
Takes & Feedback – The actor performs, and the client provides direction after each take.
Refinement – Adjustments are made on the spot, whether it’s slowing down, emphasizing a word, or shifting tone.
Wrap-Up & Delivery – Once approved, the polished files are sent in the agreed format either by the voice actor or the sound engineer.

How Long Do Remote live Directed Voice Over Sessions Take?
Every project is unique, but the more details and materials you share in advance, the easier it is for me and other voiceover actors to prepare and accurately estimate the time needed.
Here’s a general guide:
Short scripts (such as commercials): I usually schedule 1-hour sessions unless there are several versions and or breakdowns to do.
E-learning or long-form narration (such as audio guides): Typically 1–2 hours per session.
Long-form or multi-character projects: These often require multiple sessions, depending on script length and complexity.
For example, an audio drama I worked on recently needed three 2-hour sessions.
If you’re unsure how much time your project might require, feel free to reach out and I’ll be happy to provide an estimate.
Why Choose a Remote Live Directed Voice Over Session for your project?

Saves time – No back and forth after delivery of the recordings, get it right the first time
Ensures brand consistency – You can shape and adjust the delivery in real time
Enhances collaboration – Creates a strong relationship with your voice talent
Reduces miscommunication – Being able to communicate live is an incredible advantage to ensure that everyone is on the same page and understands the creative vision
It’s Fun – This part of the project is fun, so letting the collaborative creative juices flow is a great experience
In a nutshell, when you can't all be in the same recording studio, a remote live directed voice over session is the most efficient way to ensure the final voice over is exactly what you envisioned for your project.
